Gas Work- 30 Sep 2024
The plumber, Phil Davies from Select Heating Solutions, has not completed the agreed work, despite having received full payment. The agreed contract involved relocating the boiler from one room to the kitchen, connecting all radiators, and providing a gas safety certificate. While he has completed approximately 70% of the job, there is still work outstanding, including fixing one radiator on the wall and connecting the boiler and controller. For the past four weeks, I have repeatedly asked him to return and finish the job, especially as I must move house and have a newborn baby at home. Each time, he promises to come the following week but fails to show up. In our most recent conversation, he stated that he is too busy and cannot confirm when he will be able to complete the work. I have attached screenshots of our text messages and proof of payment via bank transfer for reference. Do not hire The plumber.

Gas Work- 6 Sep 2021
We needed a back boiler converting to a combi boiler system, plus a couple of new radiators. Sam was very knowledgeable about a variety of boilers and helped us find the right one for us. The old pipework in our house threw up a number of additional issues, which Sam sorted excellently as they came up, and we were very impressed with everything throughout. The boiler is great, his pipework and radiators are very neat and well done. Because of our old pipework, the job took longer than he expected, but he still made the time to make sure everything was perfect. On top of that, he is very friendly, and explained every part of the job thoroughly. Recommend him 100%, and we'll be calling him for any future gas and plumbing jobs we have. Thank you so much!

Questions to ask a gas engineer in Blackpool

Choosing the right gas engineer is essential, not just for quality but also for your safety. You can be sure you find a suitable gas engineer by asking the right questions.

Some key questions you should ask before hiring a gas engineer in Blackpool include:

Are you Gas Safe registered?

This is the most important question to ask. Only Gas Safe–registered engineers are legally permitted to carry out gas work in the UK. Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card, which lists the types of gas appliances they’re qualified to work on.

What experience do you have with this type of job?

Whether you need a boiler installation, central heating repair, or a gas safety check, look for someone who has completed similar work recently. Experience with your specific appliance brand or system can help avoid costly mistakes.

Can you provide a detailed written quote?

A professional gas engineer in Blackpool should offer a clear, itemised quote covering labour, parts, call-out fees, and VAT. This avoids unexpected costs and lets you compare prices easily between engineers.

Do you offer any warranty or guarantee?

Ask whether the engineer guarantees their workmanship and if the manufacturer provides a boiler or parts warranty. Many gas engineers in Blackpool back their work for 12 months or more.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Gas leaks and heating failures can happen at any time. Ask if the Blackpool gas engineer provides 24/7 emergency cover, and confirm how quickly they can attend.

What are your charges for emergency or out-of-hours work?

Many Blackpool gas engineers charge a higher rate for evenings, weekends, or emergencies. You should be aware of these rates in advance to avoid unexpected costs if something goes wrong outside normal working hours.

Will you provide a Gas Safety Record after the work?

For installations or inspections, your Blackpool gas engineer should issue a Gas Safety Record (CP12) confirming the appliance or system has been checked and meets legal safety standards. Be sure that the engineer you choose will do so, if required for the job.

FAQs: Frequently asked questions when looking for gas engineers in Blackpool

How do I check if a gas engineer is Gas Safe registered?

You can verify any gas engineer in Blackpool’s registration by visiting the Gas Safe Register website. You can also ask to see their Gas Safe ID card, which shows their licence number and the types of gas work they’re qualified to carry out.

How long does it take a Blackpool gas engineer to install a new boiler?

A straightforward boiler replacement typically takes one to two days. More complex upgrades (like moving a boiler or updating pipework) may take longer.

Do I need a gas engineer in Blackpool to conduct an annual gas safety check?

Yes, it’s recommended for all homeowners and legally required for landlords. Annual checks keep appliances safe, efficient, and compliant with UK regulations.

Can I ask a plumber in location to work on gas appliances?

Only if they are Gas Safe registered. Some plumbers in Blackpool hold dual qualifications, but unless they appear on the Gas Safe Register, they cannot legally work on gas installations or appliances.
