FAQ: Common questions about partition wall installation costs
What materials impact the partition wall the most?
Material costs significantly influence the overall expense. Common options include plasterboard, glass, wood, and metal studs. Plasterboard is usually the most affordable, while materials like glass and high-quality timber can increase the cost.
The choice of insulation and finishing, such as paint or wallpaper costs, also affects the budget.
What are the benefits of choosing a local professional partition wall installation service?
Choosing a local service offers benefits such as a better understanding of local building regulations, faster project timelines and lower transportation costs. Local professionals often have experience in the area, contributing to efficient project completion.
Does wall size affect partition installation costs?
Yes. Labour typically runs at around £45 per square metre, so larger walls naturally increase the total cost as more materials and time are needed. Always measure your space and get a detailed quote to see exactly how size impacts your final bill
What are some common challenges faced during partition wall installation?
Common challenges include achieving structural stability, especially for load-bearing partitions, ensuring proper alignment and levelling for an even finish, meeting soundproofing or insulation requirements and complying with local building regulations.

Hybrid roof done incorrectly by builder
Anonymous user 19/06/2026 - 8.25 AM
We have recently had a single storey extension done and I'm seeking advice. The builder has used a hybrid roof system, the building regs dept at the council have said the builder has put insulation in the wrong way around ie 100mm inside layer and 50mm outside layer and we are at risk of interstitial condensation. The build has been 'done' since mid Dec, the council have said we need a condensation risk analysis and up to now, the builder has not provided this so far as he has told me he has done many roofs this way before and never been asked for a CRA. He has now approached the insulation company to see if they can help. As it stands the build will not pass regulations without the CRA. If the CRA shows problems what are our options? Does the builder have to remedy the works and increase the insulation on the top layer, or can some kind of vents be installed to support air flow? Thanks

Hi all Im looking to retile my roof but is it possible at the same time to remove the chimney breast in both the upstairs rooms, and roughly how much would this be? So the chimney stack would still be there but as I understand a steel beam would need to be installed. Thanks in advance

Pier block
Anonymous user 02/06/2026 - 10.55 AM
I need a block pier built to support a steel beam in my kitchen extension. I have structural engineer's drawings, and the engineer has advised that the floor tiles will need to be removed where the pier is to be installed. Has anyone carried out similar work, and what would typically be involved once the tiles are removed?
