Driveways (Tarmac Surface)- 10 Nov 2020
A fantastic experience from start to finish. Julian was a pleasure to deal with and gave us great ideas and suggestions for our project to ensure that we had a modern and bespoke design to suit our personality. He kept us informed throughout, nothing was too much trouble and there were no hidden costs. His team are highly skilled at what they do, are very friendly, polite, trustworthy and tidy. We are very impressed with the attention to detail that has been achieved and how well everything was managed throughout (even discussions regarding boundary treatments with the neighbours). We would highly recommend Julian and the team if you are after a great quality design and finish. As a side note, we opted for block paving as opposed to tarmac as stated in the original job description.

Driveways (Tarmac Surface)- 4 Sep 2018
Work was originally scheduled to start 4th June but only began on 26th June as Sutton Ltd were very busy on a number of other, larger projects. The crew who attended were good skilled workmen who worked hard in difficult conditions during the heatwave. New concreted passageway was meant to eliminate rainwater 'pooling' on surface. The first time we had some rain (2 weeks after works finished) it was apparent something was wrong as surface water had not run off as expected. We sent a photo to Paul Sutton (co-owner of Sutton Ltd who had been dealing with us by text & phone after accepting job) but sadly he decided they had finished the job to the agreed specifications and that was an end to it. We had by then paid their bill. We wrote to him once more but no reply. We weren't happy to be 'off-loaded' in this way by Paul Sutton because he reckoned the job was done properly. He was never here during the work nor did he come to inspect it when finished. Later, he informed us that one of the 2 men working here on the last day was in fact his younger brother, Phillip Sutton, so it must have been Phil who 'signed off' on the job, but we had no idea. P.S. We've since had another company here to rectify the problem. They highlighted a glaring fault. Using a spirit level they found half the new surface was sloped backwards, so rainwater couldn't run off as intended. Have learned the hard way but at nearly 80 we're not taking matters further. Problem now sorted!

Thanks to Lester and Chris, all work completed, very easy to work with and any questions/queries we had were always addressed. Left the place tidy each time and kept us informed of what was happening. Last few little bits tidied up and any problems have been told to get in touch with them. Out of four builders contacted on here only Lester turned up to quote and once his quote was approved he rang to organise start date, they were here every morning at 8am without fail. Really pleased with end result, thank you.

We used this contractor 2 years ago and the result was excellent. This time we had water ingress through the roof onto the stairs. Daniel gave us a quote, which we found acceptable and he and his team commenced the work and went the further mile fixing other issues not visible at the time and the quote remained the same. Despite the rain and cold,( don't know how they could work in such conditions, not my bag!) they did the job and left the site very clean. Through every step, Daniel showed us pictures of the work and on the email invoice left a series of pictures of the completed work. All in all, we were very pleased with the result.

FAQ: Common questions about Stonehouse tarmac driveway services

What is a tarmac driveway made of, and why is it suitable for Stonehouse?

Tarmac is a mixture of crushed stones and tar, chosen for its strength, durability, and smooth finish. It is well-suited to Stonehouse because it can withstand the local weather conditions, including rain, frost, and occasional temperature fluctuations. Its fast installation process also minimizes disruption, making it a practical choice for busy households or commercial properties in the area.

How long does a typical tarmac driveway last in Stonehouse?

When installed correctly, a tarmac driveway in Stonehouse can provide reliable service for 15 to 25 years. The longevity largely depends on proper base preparation, materials used, and regular maintenance. Given Stonehouse's weather, sealing the surface every few years helps prevent cracks and potholes caused by temperature changes and moisture.

How long does the installation process take in Stonehouse?

Most small to medium-sized driveways in Stonehouse can be laid within 1 to 2 days, allowing you to return to normal activities quickly. Larger projects, or those requiring extensive groundwork, might need up to a week, especially if weather conditions delay curing. Working with experienced local tarmac companies in Stonehouse ensures efficiency and results.

Is tarmac better than other surfacing options like block paving or concrete?

Tarmac offers a cost-effective, quick, and low-maintenance solution for large or high-traffic driveways in Stonehouse. It is especially suitable if you require a smooth surface with minimal downtime. Block paving adds aesthetic appeal and can be replaced easily if damaged, but it usually costs more and takes longer to install. Concrete is durable but less flexible in colder areas like Stonehouse, where cracking can occur.

Are there any planning or permission considerations specific to Stonehouse?

Depending on your property’s location within Stonehouse, such as conservation areas or listed buildings, planning permissions might be required before tarmac installation. It’s always advisable to check with your local council in Stonehouse to ensure compliance with any regulations.
