After 13 years and 16 jobs on here, this is my first negative review. But I would avoid at all costs for large projects, due to their lack of communication and organisational skills. If you do proceed, I’d suggest: - Confirm in writing they’ve read and understood all the plans and have no questions or concerns about anything. - Confirm that cost overruns will be communicated weekly, with a breakdown of the costs. - Confirm the builders on site will have been given the actual plans for the work being done. - Confirm terms will be agreed up-front and will not change them weekly. - Arrange payments on milestones met and not time elapsed. Confirm additional work will only proceed when agreed in writing in advance. - Require weekly f2f meetings with the owner at end of play on Fridays to assess progress and surface any issues, concerns or questions. - Confirm who will be leading the project on-site. - Confirm that if huge overages will be presented with an itemised breakdown.

You have be someone special to earn a five star review from me, and Adam has earnt every single one of them. He is very reliable and personable, and his work is of the highest quality. After being let down by someone else, I had a very tight timetable for the kitchen refit, and Adam was willing to put in the hours to finish the job on schedule. The whole job included stripping out all of the existing kitchen; blocking up an existing internal doorway and creating a new one; re-plastering where necessary; arranging for an electrician to sort out the electrics; alterations to the plumbing; installing a complete new kitchen; and redecoration to complete the job. I would be more than happy to employ Adam again, and I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending him.

I decided to downsize last year and instead of the safe and sensible option of moving to a new home that was in good order throughout, I wanted somewhere that was in need of modernisation where I could design and choose every aspect of what is probably my final home. The project was inevitably expensive, stressful and time-consuming but could have been a nightmare if I had not been fortunate enough to have the help of professionals who are competent, honest and reliable. One of these was Paul Dockree who carried out different aspects of the refurbishment from replacing patio doors with solid walls to installing a new bathroom and loft ladder. I found him to be eagle-eyed and meticulous with a friendly manner and have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone who needs a general builder.
