Scot came and listened to our decking requirements: small area of decking on a paved area at the bottom of some steps; step down to another area of decking; step up to an area of decking where a pergola was to be constructed. Scot pointed out that the first bit of decking need only be a small area if we were putting a green-house on the paving - good idea.
(2 other competitors failed to mention this). On wet ground Scot post-creted the foundation supports. I asked for the post-crete by email, extra cost but agreed.
The site visit and survey was good, it was evident that Scot was knowledgeable. Price agreed, date agreed. A few minor tweaks by email, mybuilder site. Communications were very prompt.
The job took 2 days in cold weather. Scot and Dan worked hard. However, the job did not go as we envisaged. First, they could not deck on the paved area.
Second, because of the slope of the garden and new decking height, we could not have a raised step up to the pergola area. Third, due to the level of the decking, the pergola height could no longer be the anticipated 2.1m, but is now 1.85m. Post-crete wasn't used but we were refunded. They didn't place a weed membrane under part of the new decking, an existing 20y liner, from the old decking, still in good condition was left under the old deck area.
Overall, good workmanship, pleasant, hard workers, full day's work in cold weather. Just a bit disappointing the final decking deviated from the plan as above.
