No doubt about it, I agree with all the other feedback stating that Chris is a very friendly and likeable tradesman. He is - but I do have to be honest. I needed 8 squeaky steps repaired and when I spoke to Chris initially, he informed me that he would do a full staircase survey at a cost of £399.00. My staircase was bare. No carpet coverings or anything to take up. Although expensive, I accepted his quote because as well as some plywood, I honestly expected him to be on the job for at least half a day, and that the survey would consist of each step being taken up, and things examined from underneath, followed by the relevant and nuts, bolts and screws tightened. However, Chris took a look and said all the stairs needed was to glue and screw a sheet of plywood against each riser which he did. It took 2 hours. This has definitely stopped the squeaks, but it was a very simple repair in the end, and to me far too expensive baring in mind the time it took and the effort involved. None of my steps or risers were replaced as some other people have had. The following week, I had some other tradesmen in to lay flooring on the staircase. They added more of the same plywood on top of each riser as they needed to "square off" each step. They said they would have charged no more than £150.00. Yes the steps have stopped squeaking, but I do think Chris should think about tapering his prices to take into account the level of work and effort needed for each job.
