The quote was for: 1. some tree stumps and roots removed (cut into logs) and replaced by a raised bed (of sleepers) with soil 2. existing logs cut in half 3. some paving stones lifted up, the underneath excavated and topped up with soil Frank was due to start on 5 July but he didn’t appear. I rang and left a message and he rang later to say his pickup had broken down. Fair enough but it would have been nice to have been told. When work began, the third part of quote (paving slabs lifted) was abandoned as it looked like there would be further problems. They cut the logs and stumps. I noticed that the logs were not being cut in half. Frank said they would but they never were The main item (the raised bed) was built and Frank realised there wasn’t enough soil in the garden to fill it so he then tried to charge extra for. Also I stipulated the height of the raised bed should cover most of the concrete base of the back fence. It didn’t even come up half way. When I mentioned this, Frank said he quoted for 8 sleepers (in fact it was 10). I don’t know how long a sleeper is. Then he said it should be higher and would gladly quote for this! There were other minor issues eg care of existing pots and plants, leftover rubble, broken step. It has taught me to be more specific when accepting the quote eg. to mark the height of where the raised bed should be, etc.

Steve and his workmate did an excellent job and totally transformed my back garden with new paving , decking and artificial grass . They also built me a covered gazebo . I've been renovating my house so have used lots of trades people and can honestly say Steve was the best person I've had working for me . Arrived when he said worked hard was totally trustworthy and finished on time . Also did an extra job and repaired some leaking pipes for me . Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and will use again myself in the future.
