Tiling- 8 Jan 2026
While this tradesman appeared to know what he was doing, he didn't. He requires 50% upfront which should have set off alarm bells, but he said he needed that for the materials. When I pointed out issues with the job, he became aggressive cornering a lone female tenant in the bathroom demanding payment or he would rip everything out of the bathroom. I paid as I was frightened for the safety of the tenant and I was managing the job remotely. I only viewed the job in person today and the workmanship is terrible, he didnt even fix the leak coming down the back of the bath, he put so much silicone around the extractor fan (due to cutting the panelling too short), that the electrician cannot get the extractor out to fit a new one. The panels he fitted have been cut too short with the gaps stuffed with silicone, which doesn't adhere to the bath so water leaks out. Do not use him

Fire damaged stonework above an electricity meter box and around a kitchen window. An awkward job but DSR were able to rise to the challenge. They turned up when they said they would so the job could interface with the window installers. They were also confident and competent enough to work in the vicinity of the meter box without the need to require disconnection which maintained our electricity supply. The quality of the finished stonework was very good and the lads were pleasant on site. All round good job and very satisfied, would easily recommend.

What to ask a South Shields extension builder before hiring?

Before hiring an extension builder in South Shields or extension building company in South Shields, ask a few key questions to make sure you’re choosing the right professional for your home extension project.

What qualifications and experience do you have as an extension builder in South Shields?

An extension builder in South Shields should have a strong track record with similar projects and relevant building qualifications or trade memberships, such as the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) or TrustMark.

Will my home extension meet all building regulations and planning requirements?

Your South Shields extension builder should ensure the project complies with Building Regulations and, where necessary, handle or assist with planning permissions. Ask how they manage building control inspections and what documentation you’ll receive once the project is complete.

What experience do you have with similar extensions in South Shields?

Ask to see examples of their previous work, or view examples of their work on MyBuilder. Ideally projects similar to yours in scale and design. This helps you assess the South Shields extension builder’s ability to deliver a result that meets your expectations.

How long will the extension take to complete?

Extension project timelines can vary depending on size, complexity, and weather. A typical single-storey extension might take around 8 - 12 weeks. Request a detailed schedule so you know what to expect and when key milestones will be reached.

Do you offer a guarantee for your work? Most South Shields extension builders offer a guarantee or warranty on their work, often between 1 and 10 years depending on the project and materials used. This gives you assurance that any issues will be resolved after completion.

If you still have questions about the professional you are looking to hire, we have a full detailed guide on hiring the right builder here.
