Top Tip - Engage Andy to do your work! We were delighted with the work Andy and his team completed on this new extension. Andy was on site throughout the build. His and his teams experience with this sort of work ensured that there was always a solution for minor problems and the advice they offered on light/space/design was invaluable. Despite the general increase in costs and shortage of materials during this pandemic, Andy brought the whole project in on time and within the original budget. His team worked well together, were polite and friendly and ensured that they understood the requirements and level of finish we were trying to achieve. In short - on time, on budget and a quality job. Can't recommend him strongly enough.

Restoration & Refurbishment- 20 Sep 2016
Steve and his team were an absolute asset at the start of the project. His attention to detail and numerous suggestions were very much appreciated. All of the work carried out was exceptional. Steve is personable and it has been a difficult for me to leave negative feedback. The standard of work I received in the latter stage of the project was mediocre at best. I know Steve is passionate about wanting to rectify all issues but is incapable of delivering. Certain issues I was happy to overlook such as him deciding to change my chosen kitchen without discussion with me, ordering grey radiator instead of black, ordering victorian style taps for bathroom when I had provided details of the modern taps I wanted and being told I owed an additional 10k because my previous payments had not been accounted for. In November 2015 I was told all extensive works would be complete in April 2016. Endless failed deadlines and poor communication has meant the work has not been completed in October 2016. Faulty electrical wiring, damp, missing carpentry, spilt paint on furniture and new flooring, miss matched plug sockets (originally put in wrong position) are just a few of the outstanding issues. Approx 6 deadlines have been given to rectify but there is no attempt to complete. I have spent 55k with Steve and have been left to resolve these issues at my own expense.

I employed Evans Contracts to build a pair of semi detached 3 bed 2 bath houses. Although a tight build they coped well and produced two very high quality finished houses. Bad weather slowed the project a little. Budget a little over but there was additional work done ie landscaping and tiling that was not in the original price. Alan is a good communicator that knows his trade inside and out. Highly recommended.

Fencing- 2 Sep 2020
I originally left positive feedback for Daniel as I was initially pleased with the fence job that he did. However Daniel by his own admission 'forgot' to re-attach the back fence to the new fence he had installed. Dan came back to fix this problem but unknown to me he had just put one very short screw through the posts achieving nothing. So when we had the recent winds down came my back fence and my neighbours new fence was also damaged. I called Daniel again to be told 'it was not his problem' nor part of his job to attach the joining fence. I have had a professional fencer come and assess the work who had advised it is of very poor standard and any professional would have secured the joining fence properly. Daniel has not used sufficient postcrete either around the concrete post. Unskilled or lazy, i'm not sure. Daniel eventually returned after letting me down to see if we could sort our differences. I advised Daniel that I was not expecting a new or free back fence from him as eventually I would have replaced it. However I did expect him to correct the bad work he had done. He agreed and left. However a few days later he has written to me telling me he is not going to do the work. Seems I am not the only person to have this experience with this trader. I strongly advise to avoid.

Came and quoted promptly and gave a reasonable price. However he failed to turn up when he said he would, then said he needed to delay the job by 10 days, and then failed to turn up again, with no warning. Ignored my phone calls and then told me over text he could no longer do it. Very unprofessional.

What to ask a Hereford extension builder before hiring?

Before hiring an extension builder in Hereford or extension building company in Hereford, ask a few key questions to make sure you’re choosing the right professional for your home extension project.

What qualifications and experience do you have as an extension builder in Hereford?

An extension builder in Hereford should have a strong track record with similar projects and relevant building qualifications or trade memberships, such as the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) or TrustMark.

Will my home extension meet all building regulations and planning requirements?

Your Hereford extension builder should ensure the project complies with Building Regulations and, where necessary, handle or assist with planning permissions. Ask how they manage building control inspections and what documentation you’ll receive once the project is complete.

What experience do you have with similar extensions in Hereford?

Ask to see examples of their previous work, or view examples of their work on MyBuilder. Ideally projects similar to yours in scale and design. This helps you assess the Hereford extension builder’s ability to deliver a result that meets your expectations.

How long will the extension take to complete?

Extension project timelines can vary depending on size, complexity, and weather. A typical single-storey extension might take around 8 - 12 weeks. Request a detailed schedule so you know what to expect and when key milestones will be reached.

Do you offer a guarantee for your work? Most Hereford extension builders offer a guarantee or warranty on their work, often between 1 and 10 years depending on the project and materials used. This gives you assurance that any issues will be resolved after completion.

If you still have questions about the professional you are looking to hire, we have a full detailed guide on hiring the right builder here.
