I had hired William's firm based on his competitive quote, the extra 50 years guarantee from the manufacturers and that he was confident in being able to do an extra bespoke work linked to it. Whilst I was not able to present for the majority of the work, I have been told by my family that they had been polite and kept mess to a minimum. They had also kept us updated on the progress whilst they were working. Though, instead of finishing within two days, they had to work an extra third day to get the job complete. I was not concerned by this as I preferred that they take their time in doing a good and proper job rather than rushing it. I always hold back from leaving feedback straightaway to review the work and especially with gutters as I wanted to survey the whole thing when it rained. As it turns out, there was a leak from a joint and when I had informed William of this, they had pop round within that same week and recified the problem. All-in-all, I am quite happy with the work and the exterior of the house now looks updated and with confidence that the new materials will last (hopefully) beyond my lifetime.Review from Customer of W HARTLEY LIMITED Customer of W HARTLEY LIMITED

Mr Hartkey was prompt, knowledgable and spoke in laymen terms. He and his team were able to give me a prognosis and diagnosis that matched what the insurance company had told me, without consulting them of the specifics. They worked within the time scales given and my daughter informed me that they were polite and did not cause much disruption or mess. The job was very well done. I would most definitely use them again.Review from Customer of W HARTLEY LIMITED Customer of W HARTLEY LIMITED

They not only removed my old shed and built a new one but replaced my roof on my house. They worked hard to get the job done as quickly as possible, were very friendly and professional. Would definitely recommend.Review from Customer of W HARTLEY LIMITED Customer of W HARTLEY LIMITED
Review left on 18 Jul 2016Rating: 5 out of 5Hole in Roof, edging tile off - and it's raining.
W. Hartley provided a thorough and efficient service. Broken edging tiles and flat tiles replaced, re-pointing undertaken, old crumbling mortar removed and new mortar laid, lead collar around chimney re-set. Friendly and informative, and all debris was cleared up. Excellent value. Would thoroughly recommend for all roofing work.Review from claret_10, Scarborough claret_10, Scarborough

We had three roofs that needed tiles replacing plus a flat roof to be fixed. William did not come himself but sent 2 of his guys to Scarborough. Even though it was in the quote, they didn't use scaffolding or any safety equipment, which was very worrying. We thought we had the right tiles for one roof, but they didn't check them as they didn't visit for an estimate, this caused a bit of friction on their part. When it came to the flat roof, we expressed dissatisfaction about the sealant, which was really not taken at all well. The sealant was uneven and does not even touch both surfaces. One section of sealant was missing altogether. At this point they asked for payment, but we kept £200 back until they did the rest of the job. I had many angry phone calls accusing me of a lack of trust and not recognising how good a job they had done. They returned when we sourced the tiles and replaced the tiles and filled in the missing sealant. They refused to accept our complaint about the uneven sealant. They insisted on the remaining £200 in cash. Possibly they have an issue with women customers looking back at previous negative feedback.Answer from tradesperson:
We used a cat ladder to do the work on the ridges as this was safe enough for the job,we where trying to keep the cost down for customer. The tiles that are mentioned, I agreed to fit them free, when she gave me the tiles they where the wrong ones,I tried to get some but couldn't.when she got the correct tiles I fitted them for free. The only complaint about the work on the three properties was that the work on her own house had uneven sealant, where the white cladding under the porch meets the house wall which is different size and shape stones, so the soffits had to be cut round the shapes of the stones which was a neat job, the sealant followed the line of the stones,I feel a bad review because you think the sealant was uneven is pathetic
