DO NOT HIRE THIS BUILDER!!! Lewis Collins is not a trustworthy tradesman and will do far more damage than repair. We put up a request to have our stairwell painted, but Lewis told us they could complete several plastering jobs, painting of the stairwell, and repairs to the stairs within 2 weeks. We agreed on a price and demolition began. The initial work was very quick, so when he asked to be paid £900 for work done & materials we felt this was fair. However, once money changed hands our entire experience changed, we were unable to get ahold of him for nearly a week. He finally came by with the carpenter & reassessed the work. Later we received an email from Lewis's wife with a revised quote & asking for an additional £1200 for "materials and working capital". We reluctantly agreed, sending pictures & part numbers for the exact stair railings and spindles that we wanted. We asked for the nose on our stairs to be planed off & his plasterer hacksawed the stairs completely destroying the face of all of the wood. When confronted about the damage, he sent a painter & plasterer to cut mdf pieces to cover the risers. He then sent a man to paint the stairs, but no prep was done, seams, holes, and paint drops showed. He also left the man at our house and we had to drive him home. We again fired him, a week later the painter reappeared to do more painting with no prep & the same results. The 4th time we fired him it finally got through & he returned our key (though not our money!).
