    Sorting out rising damp
The original job posted in October 2017 was to resolve a problem with rising damp, and needed the work done quickly as I was 7 and a half months pregnant. Mark quoted for and installed a membrane, in November 2017, during which time we moved out for 3 days to allow Mark to work more easily.  Upon completion of the work, Mark said it was guaranteed for 10 years. The damp problem recurred less than 3 months after the initial installation. Another professional came to do some other work on the house and noticed the recurring damp. He said the injection of a damp proof course should have been done as part of the original job, to prevent the damp from rising again.   I contacted Mark to resolve the issue and he said the damp proof injection was not included in the original quote but said he had injected a damp proof course "where possible". After further questioning to clarify this statement, he said that he said he HAD injected a damp proof course in our property. The other professional has examined the work and can find no evidence of the injection, meaning the walls are not protected against the rising damp. We are left with large damp patches, damp rising from the floor, untidy finishes and a further bill to pay to complete the  job properly. Obviously, this has been incredibly stressful to manage through the winter months with a new born baby. Although Mark states that his work is guaranteed, I would not be happy to let him do anything further on our property.

    Answer from tradesperson:

In relation to the above problem I have been in contact constantly with the homeowner to rectify this problem. What isn't mentioned above is that the source of the damp is coming from behind an electrical consumer unit, which as being a fixed cupboard installation was impossible to inject or tank behind, which the customer is aware of. After a number of emails I agreed that if the homeowner was able to have the consumer unit removed by a qualified electrician I would treat this area at no extra charge, for either materials or labour. (The customer has had no problems with the additional 20 square metres of damp proofing work I rectified but again there is no mention of this.) I feel this response was entirely fair and do not honestly see what further action I could take. Since making this aware to the client I received no further communication by either telephone or email. (What also isn't mentioned above is that I had to contact the homeowner after the work was completed as they 'forgot' to pay me.) At the end of the day I tried my best to rectify the situation very fairly and can do no more than that.

    Damp proofing required in porch
Work was completed quickly and to a high standard. I was called into work at short notice, Mark was really accommodating and still completed the job within the week. He ensured everything was tidy once he was finished and the rubble was all bagged up. Really pleased and would definitely use again.

Mark did a thorough, efficient and neat job. Have already hired Mark for another similar job, done promptly and again carried out to a high standard. Mark is very approachable and friendly and explains exactly what he is doing and has done which is really useful. Would definitely recommend.
