Gas Work- 3 Oct 2016
Joel and his colleague came to fix my boiler for me last week. They got the boiler working for a grand total of 36 hours before I got the exact same problem as I was having before. I have spoke to Joel to inform him (as I have a 2 year old so a working boiler is more of a necessity then normal) I was stupidly expecting him to come out and fix what he was supposed to last week but instead I was told I would need to pay them the same amount in parts and labour for them to come back out, essentially paying twice for the same job. I am out of pocket and now cannot afford to get someone else out to do the job. I feel like I have been absolutely conned and am now looking at a month without heating and hot water with a child in the house. Thanks!

My issue was a significant one as both hot water and heating had stopped working. Muhammad was responsive and clear in his communication throughout. He arrived promptly and was clear about what was needed including materials and labour cost. What I appreciated most about Muhammad is how honest he came across. The prices were clear and there did not appear to be any inflation or issues added on top in order to overcharge. I have used many plumbers over the years. Unfortunately, some are excellent craftsmen but terrible at customer service, whilst others are simply out there to rip you off in my opinion. It is so bad that I could not get one trusted recommendation from friends and family as many people seem to experience this. Muhammad is different. He also assured me that he does prioritise his customers and I hope he keeps to his word because I will undoubtedly be using him again and would recommend him without hesitation. Thank you, Muhammad.

Excellent work, can't recommend highly enough. AMR offers great value and service — turned up on time, got the work done without any problem, found another issue with my flue and was able to fix that for a good price too. More than willing and able to explain issues and investigate something that had gone through other tradespeople (a boiler engineer and gas emergency personnel) to diagnose what went wrong and reassure us we wouldn't run into other issues. Thank you!

Handyman- 21 Aug 2026
Appointed him as he gave me the cheapest quote, but it has turned into a very expensive mistake. He started fitting on Thurs 13th. After an hour claimed a part was missing and left the job. 3 days later, he said someone died in Ireland and he needed to attend the funeral on Wednesday 19th. I suggested the 24th for him to return. Yesterday, he told me he wouldn't return until September. I then asked a friend to contact him, and he immediately offered to come and look at the job the very next day for her. Goes to show what a liar he is and incompetent to do the job. He damaged the wall tiles while removing the old enclosure and damaged the new enclosure because he couldn't fit it. Now I have to pay for a new enclosure, replacement tiles and another plumber to complete the work. I have before & after pictures so don’t lie anymore! It’s a shame there are no laws to protect us from cowboys like you who beg for the job even though you have no idea how to do it. Rotten handyman!

Gas Work- 19 Nov 2020
Had a really positive experience of working with Mark. He was clear and thorough right from his initial call. On the day he was prompt, and offered to go above and beyond what others had offered by not just replacing the immersion heaters but vacuuming out the (significant) build up of scale. He kept me updated through the day with messages and pictures. Really impressive. Rather than bill for each full hour he saved me a little from his initial quote too as the job took 3.5 rather than 4 hours. I've already asked him if he'll quote for other work and would highly recommend to others.

Questions to ask a gas engineer in Shepherds Bush

Choosing the right gas engineer is essential, not just for quality but also for your safety. You can be sure you find a suitable gas engineer by asking the right questions.

Some key questions you should ask before hiring a gas engineer in Shepherds Bush include:

Are you Gas Safe registered?

This is the most important question to ask. Only Gas Safe–registered engineers are legally permitted to carry out gas work in the UK. Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card, which lists the types of gas appliances they’re qualified to work on.

What experience do you have with this type of job?

Whether you need a boiler installation, central heating repair, or a gas safety check, look for someone who has completed similar work recently. Experience with your specific appliance brand or system can help avoid costly mistakes.

Can you provide a detailed written quote?

A professional gas engineer in Shepherds Bush should offer a clear, itemised quote covering labour, parts, call-out fees, and VAT. This avoids unexpected costs and lets you compare prices easily between engineers.

Do you offer any warranty or guarantee?

Ask whether the engineer guarantees their workmanship and if the manufacturer provides a boiler or parts warranty. Many gas engineers in Shepherds Bush back their work for 12 months or more.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Gas leaks and heating failures can happen at any time. Ask if the Shepherds Bush gas engineer provides 24/7 emergency cover, and confirm how quickly they can attend.

What are your charges for emergency or out-of-hours work?

Many Shepherds Bush gas engineers charge a higher rate for evenings, weekends, or emergencies. You should be aware of these rates in advance to avoid unexpected costs if something goes wrong outside normal working hours.

Will you provide a Gas Safety Record after the work?

For installations or inspections, your Shepherds Bush gas engineer should issue a Gas Safety Record (CP12) confirming the appliance or system has been checked and meets legal safety standards. Be sure that the engineer you choose will do so, if required for the job.

FAQs: Frequently asked questions when looking for gas engineers in Shepherds Bush

How do I check if a gas engineer is Gas Safe registered?

You can verify any gas engineer in Shepherds Bush’s registration by visiting the Gas Safe Register website. You can also ask to see their Gas Safe ID card, which shows their licence number and the types of gas work they’re qualified to carry out.

How long does it take a Shepherds Bush gas engineer to install a new boiler?

A straightforward boiler replacement typically takes one to two days. More complex upgrades (like moving a boiler or updating pipework) may take longer.

Do I need a gas engineer in Shepherds Bush to conduct an annual gas safety check?

Yes, it’s recommended for all homeowners and legally required for landlords. Annual checks keep appliances safe, efficient, and compliant with UK regulations.

Can I ask a plumber in location to work on gas appliances?

Only if they are Gas Safe registered. Some plumbers in Shepherds Bush hold dual qualifications, but unless they appear on the Gas Safe Register, they cannot legally work on gas installations or appliances.
