Plastering- 17 Jun 2024
Adam Favor and NOVA Design & Build are a nice bunch of guys and they are reliable/helpful. However, when it came to coving, architrave and flooring, acceptable standards were unfortunately not met. Other specialists had to be brought in to re-do around 20% of the job; namely certain sections of the cornice and door architrave. In the former, a few things were below standard including: 1) not joining the friezes in the correct places, 2) cutting inaccurately, 3) leaving gaps, 4) using silicon as a filler and adhesive. For the door architrave, the wood was misaligned and not glued/nailed properly. The flooring was not laid well because there are huge gaps at times; sometimes at 1 cm. Since the kitchen has been installed, it is too late to take up the floorboards again. The most dubious thing of all in this job was the quote received for decorating which was c. 15k for 47 m2. This included plastering repairs, but ultimately the job got done by someone else to a high standard at 7k.

Very pleased with our choice. We initially got four quotes from different builders, most of them were terrible at communicating apart from Alfred. He was very easy to work with, responsive and very careful with our brand new house. His team was hard working, tidy and fast. They completely renovated our garden from removal of old decking and gravel to setting up new fences, levelling and turfing the ground. They also removed our old kitchen, partition wall and carpet, as well as did jobs like plastering, building a wall and set up lights and shelves. We’ll surely have him back soon to work on other jobs.

Alton and his team at Bluelime have been incredibly helpful and enthusiastic throughout our design and planning process. From the start, Alton took his time to understand our needs and propose several cost-effective ways to improve my home and create more space for my growing family. The design process was completed efficiently and submitted for planning permission, which was granted without a problem. Since then, his team have continued to be helpful and communicative despite my need to delay to the building works due to unfortunate complications with my freeholder.

Vini and his amazing team became part of our family for the months they were working on our house! Attention to detail and great communication was a top priority for me before starting our large scale renovation, and they delivered above and beyond on every front. Vini’s team helped transform my vision into a reality - they weren’t thrown or intimidated by any of my crazy/creative ideas, and were equally ready to advise and bring constructive ideas of their own to the table, based on their years of experience. We would highly recommend Olaj Brothers as trustworthy, professional and highly skilled tradesmen.

I had a very positive experience working with Konstantinos. He is personable, reliable, professional and excellent at co-operating throughout the process. He repainted my entire flat/walls/ceilings to a high standard (and sanded down) he also helped address a few additional repairs along the way. The finish is clean, fresh, and has completely transformed the space. He was thorough and ensured everything was completed properly and on time. I particularly appreciated his attention to detail and his proactive approach in taking care of things I hadn’t even noticed. I would happily recommend Konstantinos and would work with him again in the future! Thank you

Restoration & Refurbishment- 4 Sep 2020
Octavian is a really great guy, very reliable, never disappoint, maintained good communication with us all the time. As a customer, obviously the most important part is great craftmanship, we have used other teams before and you can easily tell the difference between his work and the others. From things such as painting (you can tell they have paint and sand multiple times to provide such great finishing), tile installation (the gap between each tile is tiny, and they are very flat), Octavian’s team can get them all done. This job involves a full flat refurbishment, so the flat was completely stripped, knocked down a few walls, install new pipes / wire etc. During his work he has spotted many things that we have not noticed before. Unlike some other contractors who do not care, they will just finish what they were asked to do and leave. Octavian spotted it and recommend us the best solution for it, to provide the best outcome for the project. It is important to find someone who do care about the customer and the project. We will use him again for our future projects. Thanks. Tommy

I looked at 5 quotes and was so happy to have chosen Elvis and his highly experienced team. They did an excellent job of building a new 11sq meter garden rear extension. This was a bit complicated project because it’s a listed house. Elvis and his team were hardworking, always responsive and came up with great solutions when necessary. I am very pleased with the high quality end result. I would use them again and can't recommend them enough! Great job done

Marius has been doing a great job and put in an extra effort to ensure we were happy with the outcome. I can not recommend Marius highly enough, especially as he managed to fix an issue with the council that we had from someone else drawings. He was patient and very well prepared. Went an extra mile and gave us different ideas/options. He was flexible with timings and most importantly with price. Had by far the best quote and did an exceptional job.

What to ask a Islington extension builder before hiring?

Before hiring an extension builder in Islington or extension building company in Islington, ask a few key questions to make sure you’re choosing the right professional for your home extension project.

What qualifications and experience do you have as an extension builder in Islington?

An extension builder in Islington should have a strong track record with similar projects and relevant building qualifications or trade memberships, such as the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) or TrustMark.

Will my home extension meet all building regulations and planning requirements?

Your Islington extension builder should ensure the project complies with Building Regulations and, where necessary, handle or assist with planning permissions. Ask how they manage building control inspections and what documentation you’ll receive once the project is complete.

What experience do you have with similar extensions in Islington?

Ask to see examples of their previous work, or view examples of their work on MyBuilder. Ideally projects similar to yours in scale and design. This helps you assess the Islington extension builder’s ability to deliver a result that meets your expectations.

How long will the extension take to complete?

Extension project timelines can vary depending on size, complexity, and weather. A typical single-storey extension might take around 8 - 12 weeks. Request a detailed schedule so you know what to expect and when key milestones will be reached.

Do you offer a guarantee for your work? Most Islington extension builders offer a guarantee or warranty on their work, often between 1 and 10 years depending on the project and materials used. This gives you assurance that any issues will be resolved after completion.

If you still have questions about the professional you are looking to hire, we have a full detailed guide on hiring the right builder here.
