Driveways (Paved & Loose)- 14 Mar 2022
I am very pleased to have asked Steve to repair part of my drive and driveway drainage. Due to the strong slope on the drive some of the work required careful thought. I liked that Steve was prepared to have a detailed conversation, when he came to quote, about how the repairs might be approached and the potential obstacles. This gave me a lot of confidence. He worked hard and carefully, to avoid debris in the drain for instance, and was happy to discuss progress. This was a relatively small job and his time estimate was pretty much spot on. I was happy with the quoted price which I felt was appropriate for the work to be done. I asked Steve to do the work because I felt comfortable after our first discussion, which was not so true of the large specialist driveway companies who came to quote (or failed to quote). Steve’s finished work looks to be good quality and he proved polite, understanding and friendly throughout and I will be happy to use him again if a need arises. There was no pushy sales talk so I would recommend he be at least asked to quote for your job.

Petru and his team did a great job on my driveway- they turned up on time, worked hard to get the job done quickly and returned to complete the job, fitting around the delivery dates of the materials that we needed. Petru also ended up doing a few things in my back garden too ( painting fences, removing a dead tree etc) . All work was completed to a high standard. I would highly recommend Petru, he is a honest, polite, hardworking guy.

Landscaping- 26 Feb 2025
I hired Shane with the expectation of high quality workmanship and a timely completion within a week or so in December 2024. While the job took almost two months to complete, Shane made an effort to complete the work, but we did have unfavorable weather in December and January. Unfortunately, there were issues with the finish, i.e. a lot of tiles sound hollow due to inadequate adhesive coverage (some tiles have cracked), uneven cuts and tiles not fully grouted. There was also some mess left behind. Although the price was satisfactory and Shane was responsive to feedback and hardworking, the issues remain unresolved, which is disappointing.

Questions to ask a St Albans driveway installer before hiring them

Hiring a driveway installer in St Albans isn’t just about laying paving, it’s about finding someone who takes pride in creating a well‑constructed, long‑lasting surface.

Here are some key questions to help you make the right choice:

What experience do you have installing driveways in St Albans?

A driveway installer in St Albans will know the local ground conditions, drainage needs, and preferred materials in your area. Ask if they’ve worked on similar driveways nearby and what surface types they’re most familiar with, such as block paving, resin, concrete, or asphalt.

Can you share examples or before‑and‑after photos of your work?

Seeing completed driveways helps you visualise the quality and style of their installations. Many driveway installers in St Albans showcase project photos on MyBuilder, so browse through their gallery or request examples that match your project.

Are you insured, and do you guarantee your work?

Insurance provides peace of mind if something unexpected happens during the project. A workmanship guarantee also shows their confidence in delivering a driveway that will stand up to everyday use.

How do you handle groundwork, drainage, and surface finishing?

A well‑built driveway starts below the surface. Ask about their process for preparing the sub‑base, managing rainwater run‑off, and sealing the finished surface to ensure long‑term durability.

By asking these questions, you’ll find not only a driveway installer in St Albans, but someone who can create a safe, durable, and visually appealing entryway for your home.

FAQ: Common questions about St Albans driveway installers

How long does it take driveway installers in St Albans to install a new driveway?

Most standard driveways take between three and seven days to complete, depending on the weather, the size of the area, and site preparation needs. Larger or more decorative projects can take a little longer.

Can St Albans driveway installers remove old driveways or garden surfaces?

In most cases, yes. Driveway installers in St Albans can break up and remove old paving, tarmac, or soil as part of their service. Make sure to confirm waste removal and disposal fees beforehand.

Do driveway installers in St Albans need to comply with local planning regulations?

Yes, depending on the size and type of your driveway, some projects may require planning permission or adherence to specific local regulations, especially in conservation areas or for listed properties. Your St Albans driveway installer should be familiar with local guidelines and can advise you accordingly.
