I normally don’t like writing bad reviews as I know how it may affect a trade persons source of income. But in this instance it is necessary! The kitchen was done to good standard after a long hassle of going back and forward with him about the kitchen arrangements. It was designed and delivered by B & Q. And him being a builder he should have made his way around the problems which I think he could’ve approached in a better manner. The skirting was done to an awful and inexperienced level. He had screwed them in with many holes being left on the skirtings. Which destroyed the appearance of them. When asked if we would fill the holes and use decorators chalk/silicone for the gap at top of the skirting and the wall he replied with ‘that ain’t my job’ which I think is a awful attitude to work. Furthermore, we had paid him accordingly to the work he completed per day so it was fair and by the end of the week he would have been paid in full. But he insisted on being paid earlier than schedule and then threatened me on several occasions he will rip out or break the kitchen with a hammer. So I was forced to pay. He didn’t turn up a few days with the excuse he was too busy to come and complete the kitchen. But I was more concerned about him taking majority of the money and the work being heavily pending. I felt intimidated by him and his attitude to work needs fixing. So if you as a consumer wish to take him on as a builder be prepared!

Chandra came to us recommended and his references checked out. When he arrived to provide a quote he was very thorough and explained the cost of all aspects of the work. He made suggestions of where work was necessary and unnecessary. His conduct throughout our build was professional and respectful . He kept us updated throughout and where additional costs were to be incurred he always checked well in advance and made suggestions of how to minimise them. He coordinated with other workmen without issue. Chandra finished his work to a high spec and payed attention to detail. It is clear he cares for his work and the finished product. I would not hesitate to recommend him to others and have in fact used him repeatedly since. I have heard nothing but positive feedback from those I have recommended him to.

Unfortunately we had a terrible experience dealing with Don. Initially work seemed fine. Oak treads cut to size and attached well but then Don stained it without using the right technique and left it patchy and completely the wrong colour (compared to our other stained staircase). Don offered no solution or offer to help rectify. Blamed the stain despite proof that if applied correctly it would colour correctly. Since then the stair treads have now also dislodged, all the glue has come loose, the risers have lodged out of place and all the wood has warped. I have contacted Don politely on several occasions, sending pictures of the issues but he continues to ignore us. 2 other carpenters have confirmed Don used the wrong adhesive requiring now a full replacement as the wood warping is irreversible. Avoid Don at all costs would be my recommendation. Don is not a professional tradesman. He has cost us thousands in rectification works, don't make the same mistake we did.
