Hi, I have been doing carpentry since I left school and actually before I left working weekends with my Father for sharps bedrooms. After I completed my apprenticeship aged 19 I went self employed and started to work on new build sites pitching roofs and mostly doing 1st fix works. As I got slowly dispondant with new build works because of the lack of care for finishing and a general lack of pride I started to take on full refurbs and working for local builders. In this time I learnt a lot about other trades and how best to organise working with them to make sure everyone could do their best work. I am 42 now and this is the only career I have ever done so I think it’s fair to say that I have a good amount of experience obviously with carpentry, but also making sure the client gets what they wanted with as little drama as possible. My name is Oliver Sowerby and I’ve been a carpenter for 3 years, having spent all my time doing pub and restaurant refurbs. Doing this work I have a wide knowledge on not only first and second fix carpentry work but the understanding of keeping in line with older buildings and being able to work with difficult problems.
