Extensions- 19 Sep 2018
Antony Acomb is a very nice guy and talks a good talk, but do not use him for anything other than building a small wall, we had an extension built by Antony Acomb (built! I use that term very losely) it should have taken 10 weeks but after 26 weeks and the work still not finished we had to remove him from our home, everything he had done has had to be redone, apart from the brickwork and that's not great, he didn't even channel out the drainage meaning we had to have a damp proof course and soak away done in a NEW extension, all the plastering has to be done again, the roof needs taking down and redoing, he stuffed plastic bags in gaps and covered with concrete, he didn't level the floor and he didn't even cap off the old drain he just covered it with tiles and then concrete, he didn't remove skirtings before laying the floor, the list is endless, I'm not exaggerating, John Fowler, manager of building control York said it was one of the worse builds he has seen in 30 years, his words were it's so dire, Antony is now trading under AA building and renovation Ltd, he took £15500 Of our hard earned money and then got a solicitor to demand another £3000, so far we have had to pay another £17000 to put it right, clearly this job was too big for him, this will be on going and we won't stop until we get our money back, but we need to warn everyone, tiny job, yes but bigger then stay well clear of Antony Acomb from Acomb maintenance and solutions or AA building and Renovations.

Windows & Doors (uPVC & Metal)- 13 Feb 2023
My experience with RES has unfortunately not been as positive as I expected. Richard appears to be very knowledgeable, and nothing is too much trouble and he can find ways to complete any building work you need doing. Unfortunately the project did not go as smoothly as expected firstly the communication regarding start dates was very poor and it seemed as if Richard was struggling to find tradesmen to complete the work. Once the project started work was completed in a sub optimal order, namely rendering the property prior to all the dirty jobs creating mess and large quantities of dust which of course impacts the finish of the render. Richard did not order skips in a timely manner causing excess piles of waste to mount up on my front lawn. Richard would then state that he would charge me extra to remove this waste. Richard left my house without power to the upstairs lights and left light switches wired in the incorrect locations. Richard tried to charge me extra to correct snagging issues. Richard would also add numerous extra’s to the bill without notification or approval, Richard added several thousand pounds to my bill in extras that should have been included in the initial quotations. Richard did not like me querying these extras and proceeded to harass me and arrive at my vacated property uninvited on a Friday night to have a “professional conversation” and the police were required to attend to move him on. He then decided that on Christmas morning he would sue me.

Joinery & Cabinet Making- 21 Jun 2015
William did an excellent job It was quite a challenging task and several other joiners said it was too difficult to undertake. It is a 20 year old, bespoke two storey hardwood bay with laminated glass. The main vertical columns and the cills had rotted so the task was to replace the rotten sections with new. If this wasn't challenging enough, there was the matter of the glazing which I was expecting would blow. William and his colleague Chris turned up on a day when the rain didn't stop so it was far from ideal working environment. They very carefully removed the glass, replaced the sections and the glass and stained it to match existing. I think this needed both skill and care and am delighted with the result. I would highly recommend them both.

What to ask a window fitter in Armthorpe before hiring?

Before you commit to a contract with a local Armthorpe window fitter, be sure to have a more detailed hiring conversation and ask questions like these:

How long have you been working as a window fitter in Armthorpe, and what qualifications do you hold?

A window fitter in Armthorpe should be able to outline their years of experience and highlight any industry qualifications, such as FENSA or CERTASS certification, which ensures they adhere to building regulations. These certifications show they are up-to-date with the latest window installation standards and legal requirements.

Do you offer a warranty for the windows and installation?

Armthorpe window fitters should offer a warranty covering both the products and their installation. Expect at least a 10-year guarantee on the windows themselves and a 1- to 2-year warranty on the fitting. This gives you peace of mind that any issues, such as leaks or defective windows, will be addressed without extra cost.

What type of windows do you specialise in?

It’s important to know if the Armthorpe window fitter has experience with the type of windows you’re installing, whether that’s uPVC, aluminium, timber, or sash windows. A professional specialising in your desired window type will be better suited to its installation and ensure the windows meet your needs for aesthetics, energy efficiency, and durability.

What is your estimated timeline for installation?

Expect a clear timeline that includes the date of the window installation and how long the process will take. A typical window fitting in Armthorpe may take anywhere from a day to several days, depending on the number of windows and the complexity of the project. This helps you plan for any disruptions or access requirements to your Armthorpe home.

FAQ: Common questions about window fitters in Armthorpe

Do window fitters in Armthorpe handle the removal of old windows?

Most Armthorpe window fitters will include the removal and disposal of old windows in their service. However, it's always a good idea to confirm this in advance, as some fitters may charge extra for disposal, particularly if there are a lot of windows to remove.

How should I maintain the windows installed by a local Armthorpe window fitter?

Maintenance will vary depending on the type of windows you have installed. For uPVC windows, regular cleaning with soapy water and checking seals is recommended. Timber windows require periodic re-treatment with wood preservative. Ask your Armthorpe window fitter for specific advice on how to care for your windows to ensure longevity.

Do I need planning permission for a window fitter to install new windows?

In most cases, replacing or installing new windows in your Armthorpe home does not require planning permission. However, if you live in a listed building or a conservation area, you may need approval. A window fitter in Armthorpe will be aware of local regulations and can advise you on whether planning permission is needed.
