Builder has fitted a concrete lintel (but quoted steel)
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.56 PM
My builder has installed a concrete lintel (due to kitchen rebuild), on a supporting wall (kitchen). I said I would get council approval, but he said he would, I happily agreed. He quoted for steel (but no specific price), but has installed concrete. Should I be worried, not least that he's charging me for steel but supplying concrete. Thanks, Diane

Hi Diane
I wold personally get in touch with the council. But before you do you will need some details.
-width opening
-length of concrete lintel
-depth of concrete lintel
They mite ask for the manufacturer specifications for strength, ie what load it can withstand.
Concrete lintels are safe if installed correctly but with it being a load baring wall you should, as the customer make sure you get building regulations,
I hope this helps you and hope you resolve this matter
