Roofing

can i tile over the top of lead flashing

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.58 PM

Hi, I lost one of my ridge tiles along the v of the roof during high winds, my husband went up and put lead flashing on to temporarily cover the hole ( he was going away with work) he used the lead flashing from a roll and heated it to shape it. this has held and we have no leaks. What I want to know is do we have to take all the flashing of or can we just put the new tile straight on top?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It sounds like your husband used flashband or similar & provided you can fully re-bed the tile in mortar as the others are then it should be fine. As this ridge has blown of once already I would try & bed it back on but also screw it down if possible as it is a weak point of the roof & will happen again. Perhaps ask a good roofer[ off this site ] to do it for you, if it can be done off ladders it should cost more than £50 + vat

not something I would do ,but providing you can achieve good adhesion and a good seal for your ridge tile to bond to cannot see a problem
