Insulating solid floors

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.56 PM

I live in a 1960's bungalow with solid floors and floorboards laid directly on the screed.I don't think there is any insulation in the floors so I would like to fit some to the surface without digging them up. I was thinking of laying 1" sheets of something like Jablite covered with chipboard flooring .The floorboards could be removed to keep the height increase to a minimum but I wouldn't want to raise the floors by more than a couple of inches. Would this treatment make much difference to the thermal qualities of the floors, or are there better ways to insulate on the surface? Many thanks for your advice. Regards, Stuart

hi just saw your question my advise would be to secure battons to your concrete screed roughy 2"x1" at 600mm centres with a layer of 25mm kingspan sheets inbeween each batton then cover using a chipboard tounge and groove board and screw it down to your battons, this is just my opinion there may be other ways hope this helps tho
