Removal of internal arch/wall
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.44 PM
My kitchen has an arched wall used to create a bit of a divide within the room. As my neighbours have done, I'm keen to have it removed or reduced (maybe a steal has to be put in) My leaseholder has requested some conformation of the work I'm planning to do and legal paper work to show its safe and the right process has been followed. What exactly do I need to do?

A structural surveyor will confirm if you need a lintel, and prepare simple plans for a builder to do the work. Building control will need to approve the plans and sign it off on completion. You may well find there is in fact a lintel underneath the arch, in which case you just need the arch removing, that will not need plans or building control. Probably the easiest thing at this stage is get a local builder to give you a quote.
