Gas Works

Wallpapering around "Hole in the wall " Gas Fires, Is it O.K. ???

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.56 PM

Currently looking at having a "Hole in the wall" fire fitted to a class 1 flue , I have downloaded the install instructions which suggest that combustable wall cladding should be 3mm clear of the fire surrond ( this is picture frame style with the outer edge against the wall ) .It does however state that some heat damage or discoloration may occur to blown vinyl papers .The question I ask of experienced Gas Fitters is; When servicing this type of fire do you see installations where the chimney breast is wallpapered and if so are there signs of heat damage to the paper ? ? ?. If I cannot paper up to the fire then a surroud of tile or marble etc approximately 50mm wider and higher than the fire will need to be installed between the fire and chimney breast as the front surround has to lift up then out for servicing. Pointers based on actual experience will be appreciated.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi We would always make sure the heat out put of the appliance will not be in conflict with combustible materials near the appliance as this would result with an issue further down the line. Please provide the details of the product specification to ensure i can provide a clear and concise answer. In short, I would say no but it does depend on the output of the fire etc. Regards Marc @ Thornwood fireplaces Ltd
