Cost to paint a fire proof door
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.44 PM
Hi My tenant took it upon herself to paint my doors with a gloss paint. These doors had been originally painted with a fire retardant paint. I'd be very grateful to any comments as to whether this is a problem, and what my remedy would be (eg, strip back and repaint). I'd also really appreciate a rough estimate of how much each door would cost. Many thanks in anticipation.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

never used a fire retardant paint before as never really needed to .It`s the door itself that makes it so called fire proof...it will eventually burn just slows down the process between rooms. As for cost..if it`s a standard size door you`re looking at 10/15 mins a coat per side @ approximately £4-£5 per coat .Hope that helps

Some fire doors need to be painted in a flame retardent coating to keep the class 1 rating. Now they have oil gloss on them they become class 10 (very bad). Crown Timinox do a flame retardent undercoat and gloss, they also make an intumisent coating as a primer. Using these will get you back to class 1.
