Carpets, Lino & Flooring

Kitchen floor is half wooden boards and half concrete.

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.58 PM

I don't know what flooring to use in the kitchen. The floor is half original wooden floorboards and half concrete with a lip/ridge between them. I've just had a new kitchen fitted but the fitter failed to warn me about this problem. Some people advice screeding first, others boarding but both will add height to the floor that I haven't got. I have found some good kitchen carpet tiles and gloss laminate but still don't know how bet to prepare the floor. Any advice will be gratefully received. Thanks

Hi, you'd only need to ply line line the timber side with a 6mm ply then screed into the lip, probably only bringing up your floor by 6mm which is not a great height.

hi there i would use the stop gap 300 screed all over this floor it is designed to go over wooden and concrete floors it has fibers in it which allows it to be flexible over the lip you have so it will no crack and cause problems to your finished floor it is expensive but leave an excellent finish for what ever covering you put down albeit ceramic wood or vinyl
