Water softener and combi boiler.

Hi, just about to decide the make of a new combi boiler, can a water softener be used on any make of boiler, we are interested in worcester or valliant boilers, many thanks

yes in most if not all cases a water softener will protect the boiler from furing up with chalky diposits. both of the boiler manufactures you mention are very good, but in my opinion the valliant although slightly dearer just beats the worcester/bosch. i have had a valliant for over 20 years with only one repair in this time.

softened water must not be put into your central heating system or through the heat exchanger the cold water supply for the boiler must taken off before the water softener and an electrolytic in line scale inhibitor used on the cold inlet to the combi. hope this is helpful adrian
