Damp Proofing

mould on window frames and damp patches in corner walls

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.57 PM

Hi, we moved into our house last march and noticed the sealants around the windows in the bedrooms to be black and mould spores on the frames. Since coming into winter the condsenation has became worse, damp appearing in the corners of the bedrooms and mould spores appearing on the ceiling. Our windows don't have any vents( approx 15 years old) and our bathroom does not have an extractor but we make sure to open the window. I have started to leave our bedroom door open at night also to prevent more condensation. Do you think the problem is just condensation or another cause? Also would it be beneficial to get new windows installed? Also I have noticed the old wooden window sills are under the UPC ones! Thanks for any help

Hi there Yes your problem sounds like a condensation problem, check the loft areas above where the black mould has formed that it is insulated properly always keep your kitchen and bathroom doors closed when they are in use to stop condensation spreading and new vented windows would help and put a extractor fan in the bathroom. regards Joseph
