Gas Works

Gas Safe Certificate

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.57 PM

Could anyone help me please...I brought a house in 2007 so 5 years ago and we had to have gas put into the house (it only had electric storage heaters). We got a friend of a friend to put a full gas heating system in but he never got it all signed off and he never gave us a gas safe certificate even though we kept on asking for one. Now we have sold the house the solicitor says I must provide a gas safe certificate. What should I do if the guy still wont give one to me (I have left a message) but he fobbed us off for years as he isnt CORGI registered and his boss wouldnt come and sign off his out of hours extra job. If I go to British Gas and get an annual service will this cover me for my solicitors paperwork. Please help!!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Whoops !! Should have done it properly. I know clients that pleaded ignorance and if the buyer wanted the house it was take it or leave it. There is NO retrospective way to sign off legitimately.

Contra to the first answer, yes this work can be signed off retrospectively, but which ever GAS SAFE installer undertakes this work he/she MUST satisfy themselves that the boiler install and associated gas supply pipe work to the boiler complies with: 1. Boiler Manufacturers Installation Instructions. 2. Current Building Regulations 3. Current Gas Regulations. The survey carried out by the gas safe installer will be intrusive and can be disruptive as he/she will have to satisfy themselves it complies with all of the above standards; this primarily is an exercise to determine a SAFE and COMPLIANT INSTALLATION.
