Discontinued Laminate Flooring Repair / Floating Hearth Idea?

Zac 29/10/2026 - 2.48 PM

We have recently opened up our closed off chimney breast to original fireplace opening (bricks restored), unfortunately we didn’t account for the gap in the laminate floor where the plaster and bricked up sections used to be. We have 4 pieces of laminate that were in the shed when we bought the place and after searching it appears to be discontinued. Any ideas for a fix? We thought of fixing the damaged bits of laminate where the skirting / plaster used to be and then a floating fake hearth to extend into the void where no flooring is present? Would love some advice or help on this, trying to keep costs down but want it to look good enough that’s it’s not a botched DIY! (I know fully replacing the floor is the best solution but we cannot afford this currently).

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Yeah would be a nightmare to rip the whole floor up and would probly damage the laminate doing so I did this for a customer a while ago and we basically shaved the tongue and groove off and glued the planks in place It looked nice when finished and couldn't really tell the difference Hope this helps

Hi, I think your idea of repairing the damaged areas with the spare laminate and then creating a hearth to cover the remaining gap could work very well. It can be made to look like a deliberate feature rather than a repair, especially if the hearth is finished nicely and properly aligned with the fireplace opening.

Hi Zac, This is definitely something we can help with. I would recommend using your four spare laminate boards to repair the damaged areas, where possible, and creating a neat decorative hearth using slate or porcelain tiles to cover the remaining gap. This would avoid replacing the entire floor while giving the fireplace a professional finish. Could you please send me a few photographs of the fireplace, the damaged flooring and some approximate measurements? Also, will the fireplace be decorative only, or do you intend to use it? Once I’ve seen these details, I can recommend the most costeffective solution and provide a quotation. Kind regards, KBC Krasniqi Group
