Top fix toilet seat
Paul Gainford 28/10/2026 - 12.04 PM
Normally you see vertical posts that comes out of the stainless steel caps. The toilet seat pulls of the posts with or without having to press some version of a button. With my toilet seats, the metal that comes out of the stainless steel caps rise then turn at right angles into the plastic of the toilet seat. How do I take the toilet seat off? There are no buttons to press. I don't want to pull too hard in case I crack the pan.

Hi there.
Some toilet seats have a single concealed release button in the centre at the back of the seat, rather than separate buttons on the two hinges.
Look along the back edge of the seat, between the two stainless-steel caps, for a small button or flexible plastic section.
Good luck.

Hi Paul! For this type of top-fix hinge without release buttons, you usually need to look for a small grub screw or locking pin on the side or back of the chrome hinge base (often accessed with a small Allen key/hex wrench). Once you loosen that screw, the seat and the metal posts should lift straight up out of the fixing mounts. Hope this helps!
