Slow leak from bathroom(?) onto ceiling

James Napier 28/10/2026 - 7.39 AM

Morning, Over the last 6 months a water damage patch has appeared on the living room ceiling. It's not huge, probably 20cm wide, but it does seem to be growing. The bathroom sits above it, but it's tricky to pinpoint what it might be - the toilet, radiator and shower trays (sealant etc.) could all be the culprits. Really asking as what is more likely from those 3? The toilet and towel radiator are closer to the leak, but I know that water does not always fall straight down. Any advice appreciated.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Use dry kitchen towel underneath any suspected areas. Leave for 24 hrs, plumbers don't get to do this . If shower has a plinth take it off and look underneath whilst shower is on , force water in all corners of screen and tray . Make sure waste is tight . Check for holes in grout or if any is loose. Check for any water wherever pipes breach the floor. Good luck
