Toilet waste pipe suspected of leaking

Martin Welch 26/10/2026 - 8.29 AM

We have a toilet waste pipe that disappears into the wall and for about a meter or two, it's hidden within an adjoining wall to our semi-detached neighbour. Then it goes down and alley between our extensions at the back back of our house. They suddenly seem to be getting damp and smells on their side, so we suspect that pipe is leaking. What are the possible solutions without actually having to demolish a large chunk of the house to get to it?

Unfortunately by your description of the route of your soil pipe the only to gain access is by breaking into the wall. Unless there is some sort of access panel you are unaware of.
