Soundproofing

Anonymous user 19/10/2026 - 1.46 PM

I would like to sound proof a party wall. Currently it is the old plasterboard. What is the best/budget friendly way to do this? I will get a plasterer in to complete but wanted to know what option has better results. I was thinking either green glue and plasterboard or mass vinyl sheet and plasterboard? Or sound coat? Any options would be greatly appreciated. I had do and dabbed soundproof plasterboard before in an old house and made no difference. Thanks

Hi, any good builders merchants will stock Gypsum SoundBloc plasterboard. SoundBloc is a high-density acoustic plasterboard designed to help reduce noise transmission through walls, ceilings and partitions. It has a denser gypsum core than standard plasterboard, helping to create a quieter, more comfortable living environment when installed as part of a suitable sound-insulating system. It's particularly useful for bedrooms, adjoining living rooms, home offices, party walls and other areas where reducing everyday noise is important. It can be fitted to suitable wall and ceiling systems and finished with plaster or decoration as appropriate. One important point: SoundBloc doesn't soundproof a room completely. The overall noise reduction depends on the complete construction, including the insulation, framing, number of board layers and how well gaps are sealed.
