Cast iron guttering

Anonymous user 16/10/2026 - 8.05 AM

Hi not sure whether to replace cast iron guttering with uPVC? Or replace like for like. . The problem is the cast iron half round brackets are wrecked and looks like they are concreted in. How the heck can they come out? Some will need to be replaced. If it was replaced with uPVC ones does a soffit board need to go up if nothing there. Thanks in advance.

You can still get the cast iron gutter brackets the ones in the wall but you might have to go on line and they just pull out We uses cement to point them in . and to but soffit up you but block of wood up in between the rafters depends on the rafters of the wood hope this helps

Most older properties Edwardian/ Victorian properties or the old terraced houses used cast iron because of its longevity however due to new materials and design of modern houses don’t tend to use cast and prefer pvcu witch is easier/cheaper and tend to look better. There are various colours/choices available. U can still replace your old cast for aluminum with a continuous profile, aswell. The easiest way is for you to get someone to come and look at your property and evaluate and best advise you
