Leak under toilet, vinyl and wood underlay to replace

Eden G 13/10/2026 - 8.10 AM

A bit of a long shot but we have a leak under the toilet and the vinyl is soaked with toilet waste and what looks like a very thin wooden underlay is cracked around the toilet ! Do you know who would fix that as the carpet fitter in my town said they don’t do underlays and I should rip it off myself let it dry and see what it underneath and ask chat gpt what to do then ! Very helpful….

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Here is a short, step-by-step guide on who to call to get this sorted: 1. Plumber: Call a plumber first to fix the leak under the toilet. 2. Handyman or Carpenter: To replace the damaged wooden subfloor (underlay/plywood) once the area is dry and safe. 3. Flooring Fitter: Once the subfloor is repaired, bring a flooring specialist back to lay new vinyl.

You need a plumber to fix the leak, then a general builder to assess incase any further damage due to the leak and replace the damaged & underlay or floor I would avoid ripping it up yourself but if you was to make sure your wearing the appropriate PPE given the toilet waste contamination. And recommended a specialist.
