Installation of electric cooker.

Louie 05/10/2026 - 3.55 PM

Hi, I am looking for advice on whether a freestanding cooker can be installed safely in my kitchen recess. The recess measurements are approximately 64 cm wide, 54 cm deep, and 90 cms high. A previous installer refused to fit the cooker because he said the recess was too shallow and the pipework behind which runs horizontally and is 45 cm from the floor would obstruct the appliance. Is it correct that a standard electric cooker cannot be installed in a recess of these dimensions without breaching manufacturer installation requirements (rear clearance, ventilation, access to the plug, etc.)? I am trying to understand whether safe installation is physically possible, or whether the recess is simply to shallow for any standard cooker.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Based on the measurements you provided, I believe there may be a suitable solution. I would recommend looking for a slimline freestanding electric cooker with a reduced depth, so there is sufficient clearance from the pipework behind. Before purchasing the appliance, please send me the exact model or a link to it, along with a photo of the recess and the pipework. I can then check the manufacturer’s installation requirements, including rear clearance and ventilation, to confirm whether it can be installed safely.
