Leaking Stopcock

Anonymous user 01/10/2026 - 8.13 AM

If there is water leaking from my external water stopcock, is this my responsibility to fix or the water company?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, if the leak is coming from the external stopcock in the pavement or at the property boundary, it is usually the water company’s responsibility. If the stopcock is located within your property and forms part of your private pipework, then it would normally be the homeowner’s responsibility. I’d recommend reporting it to your water supplier first so they can confirm ownership and inspect it.

It depends. If your stopcock is outside the boundary of your home (on the road or pavement )then this usually means it's the water undertaker's responsibility. Worth giving them a call and finding out.
