Wall and roof coatings

I live in an area that includes mostly houses more than 100 years old featuring sandstone walls to the front and often exterior-painted walls to the side and rear. We recently seem to have a number of cold-calling sales people selling “free-survey” acrylic and copolymer wall and roof coating services. I would have thought they would be unsuitable for the types of house involved. Do any of these coatings actually benefit such houses?

Natural Stonewalls shouldn't be coated with any type of paint or waterproofing as the majority of them have silicone in them also the stone needs to breathe

There is a tendency to snake oil some people who think that there’s a one stop solution for the problems involved in external sedimentary stone, there isn’t.
Maintenance of external stonework, such as proper pointing and masonry paint where applicable. There is no one stop solution and be suspicious of those who peddle such claims …
