Hi there, This is a very common issue. Your kitchen sink and washing machine share the same main waste drainage pipe. Because a washing machine pumps out a high volume of water very quickly, any partial or full blockage further down the combined pipework creates a bottleneck. Since the water cannot drain away fast enough, it takes the path of least resistance and backs up directly into your kitchen sink. The best solution is to use a mechanical drain snake to thoroughly clear out the grease, lint, and debris built up deep inside the internal pipework, rather than just cleaning the surface U-bend trap.
