I’m going on holiday for 10 days. I’m turning thermostat down low so radiators won’t heat. Upstairs and downstairs separate thermostats. Should I just turn hot water tank off upstairs so water doesn’t heat up? I don’t want to turn the whole heating system off as it’s all timed bits complicated to redo it

Yes, just turn the hot water setting on the programmer to off while you’re away, then put it back to auto or whatever setting you normally use when you get home. Personally, I’d turn the main stopcock off as well while the house is empty.

Yes, turning the hot water off is fine, but on returning home put the hot water back on to heat the cylinder to 60 degrees to kill off any legionnaires prior to use.
