Any advice on rogue traders?

Has anyone had any success getting help or intervention from Trading Standards, or have any advice? I don't know where I stand legally. Just discovered that some work I had done 3 years ago wasn't finished properly and it looks like there could be further damage as a result. The unfinished area was partially concealed so I didn't see how bad it was when he finished the job and I paid him. The work was done over 3 years ago and I asked him to fix the issue in May. He made 2 appointments which he didn't turn up to. Please don't suggest Citizens Advice, they will be my last resort as I have been ill advised from them so many times.

You may still have options. Keep all evidence, including the original invoice, photographs, messages and details of the missed appointments. I’d also get an independent professional to inspect the work and provide a written report outlining what went wrong and the cost of putting it right. As it’s been over three years, I’d speak to a solicitor who specialises in construction or building disputes as soon as possible, as limitation periods can apply. You can also report the trader to Trading Standards, although they don’t normally deal with individual compensation claims.
