Rear wall window
Anonymous user 01/09/2026 - 8.33 AM
Had my attached garage converted partially into a living space and installed a window and glass door at the rear wall with a door leading into the main buiding. Was approved by building regs. Now need to do an full width rear extension without bringing down the rear wall as i want i want the wall to provide privacy between building and extension. Will this be approved as i am conceened about the rear garage window and door opening into the extension.

It all depends on size of the new extension the existing foundation are in the way they will need to be removed to make way for the new foundations for extension you will be able to see on your drawings, if it’s more than 1200 apart you should be able too keep existing wall without having to take it down. Hope this helps

Building regs are different in different places ie Scotland/England but to the best of my knowledge it would depend if you still use your garage as a garage or not due to fire regs if not I don’t imagine it being a problem lots of people have kept lockable external doors dividing there house from there new conservatory/extension .hope this helps
