How to get hot water flowing again

Gareth 19/08/2026 - 3.00 PM

We drained the hot water tank to fit a new hot tap in the kitchen. Now when we have opened the cold water feed the tank is not filling and the hot taps are not working. How do I get me hot water on again?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Gareth, this can be a hard question to answer as we dont quite know the set up and age of your tank. presumably the tank is not filling up as there will be a valve on your cold supply before the tank. this may be turned off. all you would have to do is reopen the valve and the tank should fill up. have a look for a brass valve with maybe a red handle. can always send us a photo and we can advise better. Possibly the gate valve you have turned off hasn't opened correctly or needs replacing, gate valves can be temperamental if old. Another possibility is a air lock.

If its a gate valve(red handle) thats been turned off it has possibly seized as this is very common. Failing that, it could be an issue with your fill valve.
