AC stopped cooling

My AC has stopped giving cool air suddenly.. its fan is working fine but that heavy sound that comes when it gives cool air isnt coming .. what is the problem?? Compressor? Can it be fixed if i buy a part of it? Plz ur suggestions are very welcome ..thanks

That "heavy hum" you usually hear is indeed the compressor kicking on. When the fan runs normally
but that deep humming sound is missing, it almost always means the compressor is not receiving power or is failing to start.
It is very rarely a dead compressor. In roughly 80% of cases, the culprit is a small, inexpensive component that you can buy and replace yourself.
