Just finished laying membrane and laying pebbles down in my garden to find the new pebbles was looking slightly damp so I've pulled the membrane back to see what is going on and there's a lot of water i dug a little bit to find a lot of clay what can I do to solve this problem.

For a better drainage area is to dig out a depth of 100mm of clay, install basic clean 20mm stone / gravel, lay membrane on top of the stone, and then install the pretty gravel on top. The 20mm stone underneath will act like a soakaway which will hold water underneath and naturally drain into the ground and not pool on the surface
