general builders and bricklayers handle basic groundworks, sub-bases, and pouring concrete slabs for small structures like sheds, extensions, or garden rooms, though some specialized and bigger projects may require specialized groundworkers.

This would normally be a job for a plasterer or a general builder rather than a bricklayer. If the ceiling needs overboarding, repairs, or replacing, a plasterer will usually carry out the work. If there are concerns about the ceiling’s structural condition, a general builder can inspect it and advise on the best course of action.

Yes. General builders and bricklayers commonly carry out basic groundworks, including excavation, sub-base preparation, and pouring concrete slabs for extensions, sheds, garden rooms, patios, and similar projects. For larger, more complex, or specialist groundwork—such as deep foundations, piling, or major drainage works—a dedicated groundwork contractor may be required.

Hello,
Generally experienced brick layers who have been working for a good few years gain experience in most trades Can do most basic groundworks tasks
've been a brick layer for 20 years. And over those years I have learnt to build a house from putting a digger bucket in the ground to plustering the walls to a good standard, which I often find Better Than the set trades, but take maybe longer as its not there day to day job to achieve good practices
Ask how the bricklayer how would go about the job The method of practice if possible relay the information to others to see if they no what there talking about
Ie how much concrete would be needed the thickness
How much to dig out
The types of finishes
