Changing boiler - is it a legal requirement to change hot water cylinder at the same time?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.55 PM

We want to renew a central heating boiler, have had a tradesman in and he has said the hot water cylinder, motorised valve etc all needs to be replaced at the same time, along with having the radiator valves changed to thermostatic one's. Is this a legal requirement?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It is only a requirement on whole new systems. otherwise it is just recommended. If your old system has an unlagged cylinder that will lose heat quicker than a new cylinder and hence costs more to run. The more controls you have on your system i.e thermostatic radiator valves, weather compensation, room thermostats and timeclocks, the more efficient the system becomes. This should also make the house temperature more stable and comfortable.
