Bonding gutter question…

We recently bought a Victorian mid-terrace and the survey flagged that we would need to get a bonding gutter fitted between our roof and the adjoining house. Our place has the original slate roof (otherwise in decent condition) and the neighbour has, at some point, had theirs tiled. The join was sealed with a very untidy line of mortar which is guaranteed to lead to a leak at some point. I’ve had two roofers out who’ve provided two quite different views. The first said they’ve be able to fit a bonding gutter, front and back, for £1,800. The second said because next door’s new roof sits quite a bit higher than ours (he described it as a cowboy job) it won’t be possible to install a bonding gutter without completely counter-battening our roof for a five-figure sum; he said the cheaper, water-tight alternative is for them to put flash-banding over the join. I’m now left wondering what to do for the best. I was all set to go with the £1,800 quote but the second opinion has made me worry that they’re planning to significantly inflate that once they’re up there. Any advice would be much appreciated 🙏
