Black shadowing on walls and ceilings is often caused by condensation, which can lead to mould growth, but it isn’t always a sign of damp. It can also be caused by penetrating damp, rising damp, or even soot and thermal bridging in some cases. To give you a more accurate answer, could you upload a few photos of the affected areas? It would also be helpful to know: - Is it on external or internal walls? - Does it appear after cold weather or heavy rain? - Is the area damp to the touch or just discoloured? With a few photos, we should be able to advise on the likely cause and the best course of action.
