Bathroom Fitting

Replace a shower unit

Kelly Rayner 09/07/2026 - 2.11 PM

I have a shower unit that is broken and would like to replace, is it possible to remove the existing shower and install a new one using the same section where the tiles etc have already been cut?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes, in many cases this is possible. If the new shower is a similar size and design to the existing one, it can often be fitted using the existing pipework and fixing positions, meaning the surrounding tiles can remain untouched. The main things to check are whether the new unit covers the same fixing holes and tile cut-outs, and whether the water and electrical connections (if it's an electric shower) are in compatible positions. If the new shower is significantly different in size or layout, some minor alterations may be needed. It's usually worth choosing a replacement with dimensions that closely match your existing shower to minimise any additional work and help achieve a neat finish.
